Bembridge has had a RNLI station for nearly 150 years, the present boathouse being completed in 2010. The boathouse at the end of the pier houses a Tamar class lifeboat, which is 16metres long, and capable of speeds of 25 knots. Housed at the building on shore is the smaller D-class, which is more suited to inshore working.
The shop & offshore station is open to visitors every day between 11am and 4pm during school holidays and throughout July, August and until 20th September; for the remainder of the year (except over Christmas) both are open daily from 2pm to 4pm. UPDATED 19th MARCH 2020 - DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC, THE SHOP & OFFSHORE BOATHOUSE WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.
